Oleksandr Dovzhenko (1894—1956) was a Ukrainian Soviet film director, founder of poetic cinema, and creator of a new literary genre — the film novella. Dovzhenko directed 14 feature and documentary films, wrote 15 literary screenplays and film novellas, two plays, an autobiographical novella, and over 20 short stories.
This edition includes the film novellas "The Enchanted Desna," "Ukraine in Flames," which have become masterpieces of Ukrainian literature, some short stories, as well as an impressive document of the era — "Diary. 1941—1956," which describes the historical events witnessed by Dovzhenko.
